These practical kayaking sessions are over the course of 8 weeks for school year 7+, and will develop your skills, which will allow you to experience being in control of your own kayak and canoe. We will cover the basic strokes for paddling. For those who came along last year we will carry on with your skills and introduce new ones.

The first 2 weeks of the course will be run at Ballakermeen Swimming Pool, which gives us an ideal opportunity to cover water and boat confidence and capsizing in a warm and controlled environment. During the second half of the course we will develop our paddling skills in kayaks and canoes at Injebreck Reservoir.

Throughout the course we will be working through the BCU Paddlepower scheme. For those returning to our Paddlesports club for a second or third year we will move on through the Paddlepower scheme or onto BCU Star Awards as appropriate.

This course can be used for anyone working towards the physical element of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The Course Leaders are well qualified and are experienced. Your safety is always paramount. The course cost will cover use of equipment.
