Thank you for your interest in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Open Expedition at Ardwhallan Outdoor Education Centre. To confirm your place on a course you should complete a booking form and medical/consent form, which then need to be returned to Course Bookings at Ardwhallan.
Food & Camp Fees: The charge for these sessions will include campsites fees, use of some equipment and staffing. Participants will be expected to provide all their food and there will be an opportunity to purchase this between planning and the expedition.
Supervision: There is a large emphasis on independence and self-reliance within the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme. As such there will be certain times when groups will not be directly supervised. During the practice and assessment expedition there will be no staff presence over night and supervision during the day will be of a more remote nature, thus allowing the participants to have their own experiences. Participants will be given emergency contact details for staff members and we will check in with them at various times during the expedition.
Some of the kit you will need for the Expedition will be issued to you when you arrive at Ardwhallan but you should bring the following with you.
- Pack Lunch x 2
- Approx £5 cash to buy expedition food
- Waterproof coat & trousers
- 2 complete sets of warm clothing
- 1 pair of walking boots.
- 55 – 60ltr Rucksack (if you have one)
- Water container (2x 1lt)
- Cup, bowl & cutlery
- Wash kit
- Personal medication
- Sleeping bag & roll mat
- A small torch (head torch is best)
Where and When
Before this date please ensure that the training section in expedition on eDofE has been approved by your Leader
Planning Day: 10 am - 4pm
Plan practice route & complete paperwork, review kit use, agree menu, kit etc
Expedition: Meet 10am Day 1, Approx finish 4pm Day 3
